Elections Online in the United States
When you hold an election these days, it is difficult to keep out online resources. Using an online voting system such as social media and many other online tools make elections easier, and more exciting but, they have their negative consequences, too. However, it is more than just about accentuating elections online in the United States.
Let's use a homeowner’s association as an example, and there is an election to be held. Not every property owner might consider an online election a good idea depending on the situation, but it would likely be a winning idea for many people and homeowner’s associations. Think about the people that are out of the area and have to vote by proxy. I think it was just last year that my HOA made that available.

Before that, I either had to send in my vote by proxy card or attend the annual meeting. Now don't get me wrong. I want to go to the meetings, but there are all kinds of obligations people have these days. How can we do it all? The world didn't necessarily have to take things online, but now that we did, we have to keep using online resources just to keep up. Back to the benefits though of using an online voting system and also using online resources for elections, too.
There are also software programs and all kinds of other technological resources that can join in the fun. Have you checked yet to see if there is an app for that? An election voting app that utilized all kinds of resources, including social media and analytical tools, would be really cool, don't you think? Maybe there is already a good one out there, or maybe your election would require more than an app.
You could hold certain elections on social media, or you could send virtual voting forms by email. You can have people vote on a website, too, as it all depends on how you want to set things up. There are even more involved ways of handling things if you're holding quite the election. You won't believe all the tools available to you once you get to looking around.
How do you see the election you plan on holding playing out online? What do you think the participants are going to say? Think about age demographics, and consider as well whether you want to just provide the option to vote online like my HOA association does. Or, you can make it an online only election, which might open you up to using even more online tools. Ask yourself if there is a way that you can keep yourself from having to count votes manually, or hold an election in person for that matter. Does it sound like a much better voting environment for what you are bringing to the table? Do you think that it would change the way people vote at all?
